Wedding dresses and suits can be works of art. Carefully and individually crafted, dresses and suits will make you shine during your ceremony and the reception. These are the items of clothing people tend to attach a lot of significance to. There are so many cases of people keeping their outfits for years in wardrobes as the most beautiful memory of that special day.

But what if you turn all these sentiments and memory preservation upside down? After all, there are no rules to this game! When it comes to wedding photography, it’s all about telling a story. A good photographer will leave you a lot of space to tell your own. So, why not turn the things around a little bit?

Why don’t you just get yourself all dressed up nicely and jump into a puddle of mud? Or get up early in the morning, go to the beach and run into the sea wearing your stunning garments?

I am not saying that taking pictures of you jumping into the sea in wedding garments is the only way to ensure great photos! All I want to express is that such photographs can be a wonderful memory of your wilder side. These will go great along your typical wedding pictures. They will also work great with the entire album possibly showing a more authentic you!

“But how am I going to attend my wedding in a torn, wet or dirty dress?” you may ask. Well, I am more than happy to stay a bit longer with you and take amazing pictures of you goofing around in your lovely garments on the next day after the ceremony. One thing though – make sure you both fully agree and are 100% convinced that it’s worth it to damage your beautiful dress or suit! They say that “all is fair in love and war”, but it’s still good to agree on such things!

When it comes to art, it might seem that everything has already been done. But then, there is this one person who comes forward and changes everything!

Wedding photography has its tropes and cliches, there’s no denying that! You’ve got all your dips and kisses or jump shotsjumpshots – there is nothing wrong with wanting these kinds of pictures to be in your wedding album! But you may want to take it to the next level and get really creative with your pictures! Wedding photography is also art – an art of preserving memories from the most special days!

Here’s some advice on how to turn your wedding photo session into something special and unique!

Think of what defines you

Take a look deep down inside you. What are your biggest passions? How do you perceive yourself? How would you like to remember yourself in 20-30-40 years when you dig out your wedding album for a trip down the nostalgia lane?

Organizing your wedding photoshoot around the things you love will allow your wedding photographer to really bring out the real you in the pictures.

Think of all the things you want to do!

Ever thought of having a photo of you taken during scuba diving? Or bungee jumping? Doing that in your wedding dress or a lovely three-piece will make it that much more special and memorable!

Try to think of all the crazy things you both always wanted to do, but were always like: “we can do that later” or “we need a special occasion to do this”. Well, wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so grab it! Reach out to your favorite band and have your first dance to a song you both love played live. Climb on top of a mountain at dawn and cuddle up under a blanket. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you bring your wedding photographer with you!

And finally… don’t be afraid!

This is going to be your photoshoot. Make the most out of it. Taking risks can only pay off with amazing memories from your wedding day (and incredible photos as well!).

Hi Chris, we got our pictures and we LOVE them. We were so excited opening the package. The presentation blew me away I was expecting just an old memory stick in an envelope. I want to write you a proper review to tell everyone how amazing you were to work with. From the moment we spoke on Skype I knew you were exactly what we were looking for. On the day of the wedding you were an absolute pleasure to have around. You really relaxed me getting ready chatting as if I’d know you forever. I know the last picture that was taken that I said no im done no more and you said this one will be the album cover! You were right it is amazing and anyone that has seen it has commented how gorgeous it is. They cant believe its real.I apologise I blame the dress! Summer Weddings at Powerscourt
Powerscourt House and Gardens are stunning all year but they are just beautiful in the Summer months. As the garden begin to come to life with many beautiful booms it is also the kick start to our wedding season at Powerscourt.

Eimear and Dominic were wed on the 28th May this year and here’s what they had to say;

”We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Powerscourt House for making our wedding day so memorable. From the moment we visited the venue we knew that this was the perfect place for our wedding and it lived up to all our expectations.

The downstairs room for our ceremony was cosy and intimate and having our reception outside in the gardens with ‘that view’ was just perfect, although the room upstairs was so nice that we knew our guests would be happy inside or out.

We had a lot of people travelling from the UK so it was important to us that they were wowed by the venue and beautiful Wicklow scenery, which they of course were! We received so many compliments about how beautiful the house and the gardens were. Not to mention having stunning photos as a result of the backdrop.

The staff at Feast also provided us with a perfectly smooth day and thought of everything we would need. The food was delicious and the wine flowed. Both the house staff and Feast helped us so much in the run up to the wedding and could not have been more helpful.

We and all our guests had such a great day and night we wish we could do it all again. We would not hesitate to recommend this venue to any couple planning their big day.”

I can’t believe you even got great pictures outside when we went to the Muckross House when it was so windy and raining!!

Daytime is not the only option if you want to get interesting photographs. Allow for some time in the evening as well [the so called “golden hour”], or at night, and the FAB pics will come your way.

I think great is have options from day or evening or night time wedding photos.

Is beauty and quiet when you have the wedding on rainy day

Minimalism is the latest lifestyle trend, which actually makes a lot of sense. It’s all about limiting your possessions to include only the essentials. Going minimal allows people to shift their focus from accumulating possessions to the most important things – relationships with other people!

Minimalism can also be applied to your wedding – because why not?!

Remember the pictures from your grandparents’ weddings? They usually included more than 100 people, all dressed to the nines, traditional dishes on the table and traditional activities. By no means am I trying to say that this is a bad thing! However, you might want to consider stripping your wedding to its very essentials – the people with whom you want to spend this special day!

Limousines, a band, flowers, fancy food – do you really need all of that? Keep in mind that memories are made by surrounding yourself not with expensive stuff, but with the right people. And when you actually take away all these fancy things you are actually left with a tabula rasa and a group of people that mean a world to you. In that way you can do whatever you want for your wedding reception!

What does it mean for your wedding photographer though? A minimal approach to your wedding means that there will be more opportunities to actually focus the lens on the most important person – you!

Let yourself be in the middle of attention! It’s your day and the photographer knows it perfectly. Believe me – ditching all the bells and whistles will make you shine so much brighter in the pictures. That will make your memories a lot more vivid when you revisit your wedding album in 15, 20 or even 30 years. No one will remember the car you drove to the reception or how many courses the dinner had. Instead, what they will have in mind will be the image of you and the other guests having an amazing time!

Long story short – ditch all the unnecessary things. Give your photographer a chance to take pictures of the people – you and your guests. Make your memories shine through the photographies and focus on the people, not the fancy stuff. By stripping down your wedding, your photographer will be able to capture the very essentials of what makes you you!
