Duncan Reid and I cannot thank Chris enough for capturing our wedding so beautifully. His professional and efficient service made the day run naturally and seamlessly. We have attended a number of weddings and experienced many photographers and we truly appreciate how Chris took the time to listen to everything that was important to us on the day and to fit in with how the events unfolded whilst capturing every element of the atmosphere.

Being foreigners getting married in Ireland it was daunting for us to try and find the right service providers for such a special day. We were drawn to Chris based on the dramatic and unusual way he could manipulate the most basic elements (especially clouds). However, now that we have met him and spent a day with him he provides so much more than that. He assess absolutely every moment and element of the day – the emotions being felt, the surroundings, the lighting, beautifully unusual features and most importantly the subtleties’ that most people don’t even notice on the day. It is clear from our interactions with him that he absolutely loves his job and uses every opportunity to make the whole experience fun and in certain instances even laughable.

We are so grateful to Chris for capturing our day so beautifully but for also making the overall experience a fun and memorable one. He surpassed all our expectations and made us feel so comfortable especially with the many jokes and laughs in between. All that is left for us to say is THANK YOU.

A schoolyard romance for Ciara & Rob

Childhood sweethearts Ciara and Rob, from Dublin, met while in their fourth year of secondary school. Ciara was won over on their first date — a school trip to Dublin Zoo — and from then the couple were inseparable. The love birds had lived together in Thailand for two years before Rob whisked Ciara away to a hotel in Khanom, where he had prepared a picnic on the roof. “He told me it was to celebrate that it was two years to the day when we left Ireland to go travel. I went to the edge to have a look at the amazing view and when I turned around he was on one knee!” says Ciara.

The pair returned to Ireland for their wedding, holding a traditional ceremony in Toor Church, Co Tipperary, where Ciara’s parents were married 35 years previously, and where her grandparents live locally.

After their intimate ceremony, Ciara and Rob held a drinks reception in her grandparents’ pub before they celebrated for the night at the Castle Oaks House Hotel on the banks of the River Shannon.

Ciara found her elegant lace dress online on Australian website graceloveslace.com and her bridesmaids wore blush-toned midi dresses from Monsoon, while the groomsmen were suited by Love Suits, Dublin.

Ciara and Rob will shortly be heading off to enjoy their dream honeymoon in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Recently there’s been a lot of talk about how mobile phones or more often, smartphones can easily take away from that feeling of authenticity of a certain event. Go on YouTube and find any video shot during a concert. Go to the comment section and you’ll find countless people complaining about how they see an ocean of phones. It goes without saying that mobile phones became an inherent part of our lives, but perhaps it is a good idea to put them down every once in a while. Especially on special occasions, like concerts or… weddings!

It’s completely understandable to have a phone with you at all times during your wedding. Despite all the joy and love around you, there might be some sudden emergency, an issue with your catering provider or a call from your relative who couldn’t come but still wants to wish you all the best in the world. You and your guests might also want to do the most obvious thing – selfies! They’re obviously a great token of memory and there’s nothing wrong with taking a couple of them.

So, why you should put your phone down at a wedding ceremony?

However, if you’re reading this, you need to keep in mind that most likely there will be a wedding photographer with you during the entire day. You don’t want to look through your wedding pictures in ten or twenty years and see people with their noses in their phones!

Actually, if you think about it, all these people commenting on YouTube videos might have a point. On special days it is important to be in the moment. We’re not saying that you should ban phones entirely from your wedding reception. All we want for you is to get photos with the WOW factor. And for us to do this, you and your guests need to be present and in the moment! Those notifications can be checked later! You can also upload these pictures tomorrow. Go and enjoy what’s probably one of the most special day in your entire life!

So you’re planning to hire a photographer for your wedding! We’re glad you’ve stumbled upon our page! Here at Dolinny Photography we make sure you are a top priority! But in order to achieve this, you need to get to know your photographer!

Here’s a three-step guide on how to create that special bond with your wedding photographer:

1. Understand your photographer – Photography, just like music, painting or writing, is a discipline of art. However, what distinguishes photography from all the other aforementioned is its ability to capture its object instantly. A great photographer strives to immortalize emotions and impressions, be it a lovely smile, a wild animal or a beautiful sunset by the seaside. Wedding photography is special in this sense, because it focuses on feelings of love and joy – that’s exactly what we aim to capture at Dolinny Photography!
2. Let your photographer become your friend – It’s a game for two really. As we said above, it’s important for you to understand your photographer. Couple married in Kilkenny in front of 70 loved ones after meeting in Thailand

John James Rush and Kattiya Putrasreni

First of all, John, from Kilkenny, completed a degree in art and design in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. Since 2008 when travelled to Thailand where he found a job as an animation teacher at the American School of Bangkok.

As a result, three years later, he met Kattiya, a stage manager for a Thai TV company from Saraburi province.

The couple got engaged last year and as is Thai tradition, the celebration was on the party an elaborate affair. “Seems like a wedding, where everyone wore gold”. John’s mother, aunt and cousin made the journey to Thailand to celebrate with the couple.

Having decided to marry in Ireland. About 70 loved ones – including Kattiya’s parents Prasan and Wattanee Putrasreni and her sister, a bridesmaid – were present at the civil ceremony at Butler House, Kilkenny on July 18th, 2016.

This was followed by a reception at Langton House Hotel where the newlyweds’ first dance was to Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight.

As you could see John, son of Jim and Anna, and Kattiya, travelled to Ireland just after their engagement to organise the wedding and, finalising plans over email, found the process, “pretty stress-free”.

Their favourite part of the day was “when we went across to the rose garden in Kilkenny Castle for photos. As we walked through the gates, buskers serenaded us . . . a really nice, unplanned touch”.

The couple – who say married life feels, “just like it did when we dated but still as special as the day we met” – try to make it back to Ireland once a year and while they still live in Bangkok they say “moving back to Ireland is always an option for us both”.
